Report on Swing Weekender in Switzerland

.

Nobody seemed to know what to expect from this event, but the truth is that this weekender exceeded everyone’s expectations!! I’ve been to many swing events in my time but never to a swing party in such a perfect setting as the Hotel ''Schatzalp'' in Davos Switzerland.
.
The art nouveau hotel built at the turn of the century with it’s original decor brought about a very special atmosphere to this event.

Many of the hotel rooms remained in original style, the dinning area, terrace, ballroom and even the reception were quite splendid, putting everyone in the mood to enjoy a fabulous weekend.
.
Sitting on the terrace with friends, enjoying a cocktail and looking over the vintage vehicles on to the breathtaking Swiss Alps was quite an incredible experience.
Cocktail hour with live music, Gala Dinner and then bands and music through to the early hours, ensured an ideal programme for swing lovers and enthusiasts of this era. The bands “Skylarks” and “the Good Fellas” played a mixture of styles from rock ‘n’ roll and Jump, Louis Prima style through to swing.
.

.
Both bands gave an excellent performance and were appreciated by the audience. The DJs concentrated their efforts mainly on sounds of the swing era playing to a mostly swing orientated crowd. Friday night’s late-night spot with DJs "Shuffle DeLuxe“ and “Swingin’Swanee” will certainly be remembered as one of the highlights of the weekend.
.
.
Daytime events included flee market stalls and on Saturday a cinema showing vintage footage. Some of the “party animals” amongst us would have liked more action during the day, whilst others thoroughly enjoyed the peaceful, melancholy atmosphere of the Alps.

We enjoyed the weekend so much we didn’t want to leave and 10 of us stayed over for an extra night and had the opportunity to have this wonderful hotel almost all to ourselves.

I’m sure that everyone who attended this weekender will be back again next year. I’ve been assured that this event will take place again in 2002. I can wholeheartedly recommend this event to all swing lovers and would love to see more of you attending next year I promise you won’t regret it!!

Many thanks to the bands, musicians and DJ’s, and last but not least, a very special thanks to "The Dames” Gabi and Brigitte ( info-email: damesdontcare@gmx.ch ) for all their efforts. Keep up the good work girls we’re all looking forward to the next 100 Rhythm and Swingheart Weekender!
